The Consequences of Sexual Sin
“Did God really say… you can’t have sex until you are married”…….
It’s the same deception satan used since day one when he said “did God really say you can’t eat the fruit from the tree….”
There is not one sin more destructive than sexual immorality according to God (1 Corinthians 6:18-19 ESV). Sadly in my Life I’ve learned a great deal about the consequences of sin. Especially sexual sin as it relates to our life. The worst part is as parents, our children will repeat our sin as they watch us do it. If it’s “OK” to have premarital sex in front of our children, they will continue that behavior into their life. Someone has to break the cycle. No one ever realizes how deeply it affects you because in this world were told to just get what we want and feed our flesh. The evil one has weaved such a complicated web to keep all in bondage and I was the most bonded human for the longest time. I never would have described myself as doing anything wrong sexually until I understood God‘s law. “It’s just something I struggle with but God still loves me”. Lies! AsGod began to heal me, He showed me that much of my deepest wounding was rooted in sexual desire and sin. It left a wake of destruction, a fractured family, and tremendous heartbreak and loss.
Scripture repeatedly warns us about the seriousness of sexual sin. The Bible even identifies it as a sin against our own bodies:
1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body.”
Hebrews 13:4 “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”
According to God’s design, sex is meant to be experienced exclusively within the covenant of marriage—between a man and a woman. Anything outside of that design leads us away from His blessing and protection. And trust me, you do not want to be outside of God‘s protection in this world.
God created sex as a gift—something meant to nurture deep intimacy in a marriage (not a Situationship, not a shacked up situation and certainly not extra marital affairs) through an exclusive, lifelong union. Sex is not merely physical; it is spiritual. Scripture says that through sexual intimacy, two people become one flesh. If God‘s word is really true, every person that you’ve had sexual intimacy with is now part of you and has influenced your life more than you know.
Matthew 19:5–6 (ESV) “5- ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
But like many things God created for good, the devil has perverted sex and tempts us to break God’s commandments. He whispers the same lie he spoke in the garden: “Did God really say…?” The enemy disguises himself as an angel of light making us think our sin is ok, drawing us toward spiritual death like a moth to a flame—only for us to be destroyed by the very thing that attracted us.
Our culture has embraced lies boldly and without restraint in this area. Adultery is justified over the smallest offense. Just go get another lover for me spouse. Fornication is celebrated. In fact, so many churches today will even allow unmarried couples to live together with zero intent of marriage or convent with God. By doing so they say it’s ok to fornicate, break God’s law and even allow them to lead ministries while doing so. The results are all around us: broken families, dysfunction, depression, pain, and deep confusion. We teach those around us, especially our children that if we’re not happy with one person, we just go to the next. We even have a name for that. It’s called monkey branching. You don’t need to be a social worker to see the devastating results……. high divorce rates, children born into unstable homes, widespread sexual exploitation, and a society full of hurting people that just continue the cycle. The enemy has blinded our eyes so that we cannot see that sin is wrecking our lives and wounding our soul and eternal life. We need Jesus!
The reality is sin never satisfies. It always demands more. It will never be enough until you can figure out how to say no. It’s no different than being an alcoholic. One more drink, another round, until you wake up face down in your own vomit! The only freedom is to surrender to Jesus and do it His way!
In his teachings, Tony Evans describes the real-life consequences of sexual sin. He explains that it leads to:
Loss of God being the only God
Loss of the Word of God
Loss of relationship with God
Loss of wealth
Loss of Gods protection
Loss of the enjoyment of sex
Loss of satisfaction with only one partner
Loss of good sense and morals
Loss of peace
I can personally attest to all of these. Every single day in my life, and in the life of other men in our mens group I see that Sexual sin was a very destructive part of life and why we need to be born again.
My plea to anyone currently engaging in sexual sin—whether it is premarital sex, adultery, pornography, homosexuality, or other….. there is a better way. Jesus wants to heal you. He sees your worth, your value, and the plans He has for your life.
Romans 8:1 says We all sin and fall short of God’s glory. But in Christ, there is no condemnation—only the invitation to repent, be restored, and be healed. Confess your sins. Ask Him to heal your wounds and empower you to live in obedience. He is waiting for you.
Sin promises freedom but delivers bondage. It may look fine on the outside, but inside we feel the pain and emptiness. Only Jesus Christ can break the chains of bondage and bring true joy, peace, and freedom. He was sent to set the captives free.
No matter your past, God’s Word says you are washed clean—made white as snow. Isaiah 1:18 (ESV) ““Come now, let us reason[a] together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you can do that today. Simply come to God the Father in prayer. Tell Him you want to turn away from sin. Ask for His forgiveness. Tell Him you believe that Jesus died for you and that you receive Him as your Lord and Savior. Then get in the word Begin in mattthew
Romans 10:9–10 (ESV) “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
